Merry Christmas!
Baizuo do not allow the phrase ‘Merry Christmas’ to be said, claiming it can offend non-Christian communities. This seems ironic. If a group of people were so fragile, they would not have survived through millennia of human history. Unfortunately, the perspective of Baizuo appears quite narrow. They fail to connect the current state of human society with its history. For instance, they prefer the term ‘African-American’ over ‘Black-American’, arguing that identifying people by skin color is racially discriminatory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, this approach raises questions. Why distinguishing people by skin color is considered discriminatory, while categorizing them by geographic origin is not? Baizuo refer to Black people as ‘African-American’, those of Asian descent as ‘Asian-American’, but Baizuo simply identify themselves as ‘American’, not ‘European-American’. Isn\u2019t this a form of discrimination too? True native Americans are the Indigenous people. Historically, the term ‘Indian’ was mistakenly applied by Europeans to the diverse tribes and races across North and South America, because Europeans thought the Americas were the South Asian subcontinent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As society has evolved, history has remained an objective and inseparable part of our existence. Not all historical terms are intrinsically tied to racial discrimination. For instance, while it’s now acceptable to refer to someone from China as a ‘Chinese man’, the term ‘China man’ is considered discriminatory. This distinction might seem puzzling to native English speakers. The term ‘China man’ carries historical baggage from a period of anti-Chinese sentiment in North America. Back then, the use of ‘China man’ by white individuals had a tone and attitude somewhat akin to modern usage of ‘Guy’ or ‘Yank’. Although these terms could be seen as mildly contemptuous, they didn’t necessarily imply a hierarchy. In today\u2019s world, where the strength of nations like China is recognized and the concept of equality is widely accepted, the offensive connotation of ‘China man’ should arguably be reassessed, at least within the English-speaking world. However, it’s important to note that in Chinese contexts, ‘China man’ has been translated into a term with significantly more derogatory connotation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The oversimplification of complex societal structures into categories like race, environment, economic class, and national power demonstrates a static worldview. Such a perspective fails to recognize the dynamic nature of the world, its historical connections, and future changes. Lacking genuine conviction, Baizuo often misunderstand the essence of fundamental principles like those in the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. In their inability to compete fairly in elections, they resort to manipulating legal provisions for their benefit. Such tactics, commonly used by dictators, compel their opponents to adopt similar undemocratic and unethical strategies, ultimately eroding the true values of democracy and freedom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
